Tributes have been paid to popular Beltex breeder and Scottish livestock farmer Jim Kennedy, who has died at the age of 61.
Mr Kennedy farmed with his family at Lyonston Farm, Maybole, Ayrshire and 'dedicated his life to the benefit and improvement of the livestock sector'.
He acted as a procurement officer for his company Carrick Primestock and latterly was an agent for Tarff Valley.
He was a keen exhibitor with his son Wallace at the Scottish National Fatstock Club pre-Christmas carcase competition and also heavily involved in agricultural organisations.
John Cameron, former NFU Scotland president, said: "Jim had real comprehensive knowledge of both the sheep and cattle worlds and was always willing to give his good advice and help to anyone. He willingly gave of his expertise as a member of the Council of the then newly formed Scottish Beef Association.
"He did not suffer fools gladly and he always called a spade a spade but he was someone in whom you could have complete trust as well as enjoying his good company and many, many people who benefited from his wise counsel and friendship will miss him greatly.
"Our thoughts go out to his hardworking wife Sally, two daughters Lauren and Caroline, and son Wallace, all of whom served an efficient apprenticeship at home on the farm, as well as pursuing their own successful careers.
"In the words of the good book we can truly say of Jim 'Well done thy good and faithful servant'."
In a statement, the Beltex Sheep Society wrote: "It is with an extremely heavy heart that the Beltex Sheep Society notifies its members and fellow Beltex breeders of the sudden passing of the society's Chairman, Jim Kennedy, on Sunday August 15.
"A well-known and respected breeder of Beltex and other breeds of sheep for many years, Jim has been at the helm of the society for the past two years and his knowledge and straight to the point guidance will be sorely missed by all.
"The society sends its deepest condolences to Sally, Lauren, Wallace, Caroline and extended family during this difficult time.
"Funeral arrangements will be shared in due course for anyone who wishes to pay their respects."
