![How does cutting grass more often mean growing more grass?](https://image.chitra.live/api/v1/wps/ea98975/6fc92330-ad5e-495c-8ff1-33fda5c1dda5/1/silage-JEB6432-Main-detail-679x419.jpg)
Cutting more often allows faster grass regrowth (provided grass is not cut too low).
Volac research has shown cutting five times yielded 0.92t/ha more dry matter over a season than cutting three times. Grass from the five-cut system also delivered 0.5 MJ/kg more energy and had a crude protein content almost 3% higher.
Milk Yield
Based on this combination of extra energy and greater yield, the five-cut system was calculated to deliver 18,582 MJ/ha more energy over the season, potentially equating to 3,506 litres/ha more milk.
