Enjoy this quick and easy Chinese recipe with your youngsters. Get them in the kitchen, weighing, boiling, frying and much more. This is a great challenge to test reading, listening and timing skills. Plus a yummy meal is promised at the end!
Ingredients:
- 1 White Onion
- 3 Garlic Cloves
- 5 Spring Onions
- 1 Red Pepper
- 100g Mushrooms
- 2 large Chicken Breasts
- 4 rashers of Bacon
- 100g frozen Peas
- 1 large grated Carrot
- 3 tablespoons Soy Sauce
- 1 tablespoon Oyster/Fish Sauce
- 2 eggs
- 600g long grain Rice
Method:
- Boil 600g of long grain rice as per the instructions on the packet.
- Whilst that boils, finely chop the white onion, garlic cloves, spring onions, red pepper and mushrooms and fry in a large frying pan/wok with a tablespoon of olive oil over a medium to high heat. . Remember to keep checking the rice and stir every couple of minutes to make sure it does not stick to the bottom of the pan.
- Dice the chicken breasts and bacon. Once the veg has softened add the chicken, then a minute or two later add the bacon. Once the meat is cooked and the rice is boiled, drain the rice and add to the frying pan of veg and meat.
- Add the soy sauce and the oyster/fish sauce and stir together. Add the frozen peas and grated carrot and stir thoroughly. Lower the pan to a medium heat and push the friend rice to one side of the pan.
- Crack two eggs into the empty section of the pan and lightly whisk with a fork to break the yolks, almost making a basic scrambled egg. One the egg has cooked, stir everything together and add a large pinch of salt and pepper to season.
- Your Chicken Fried Rice is ready to serve!
