Neil and Stuart Barclay, Insch, led the Charolais bidding at 30,000gns, with 101 bulls selling to average £8,034 with a clearance rate of 79 per cent.

Harestone lead Stirling Charolais trade at 30,000gns

Neil and Stuart Barclay, Insch, led the Charolais bidding at 30,000gns, with 101 bulls selling to average 8,034 with a clearance rate of 79 per cent.

Sale leader was Harestone Sandiego, a November 2021-born bull which had stood third in the pre-sale show. A son of 24,000gns Goldies Oasis, Sandiego, out of French embryo cow, Harestone Jean it was knocked down to H. Goldie, Dumfries.

Not far behind at 28,000gns was the reserve senior champion Balmyle Sandy from Bill Bruce, Balmyle. A Maerdy Onedirection son, out of Balmyle Nellie, a Maerdy Gouverneur daughter whose sons have sold to 14,000gns, this May 2021-born bull sold to J.A. Connolly, Ballynahinch.

Another from the Harestone pen, Harestone Spartacus, made 18,000gns. A French embryo by Major semen, out of the French cow Valeriane, it sold to Boden and Davies for the Sportsmans herd, Stockport.

Two bulls sold for 16,000gns, the first being reserve overall champion, Inverlochy Supersemen from John and Raymond Irvine, Ballindalloch. By 12,000gns Caylers Napoleon, this June 2021-born bull is the first calf out of Inverlochy Maple and sold to A.J.B. Forrest, Biggar.

At the same money for Richard McCornick, Dumfries, was his July 2021-born bull, Ricnick Sargeant. Tapped out senior make champion at 2022 Stars of the Future, this Goldstar Gentleman son, out of Ricnick Precious, sold to Strathisla Farms, Perthshire.

Neil Blyth’s overall champion, Marwood Smoky from his Elwick-based herd sold for 15,000gns.

By stock bull Burradon Goldenballs, which is owned in a half share with ? the Brampton herd, and out of Marewood Opium, this April 2021-born bull sold to Ian and Dorothy Goldie, Dumfries.

Also at 15,000gns from Esmor Evans’ Maerdy rdy herd, Mold, was Maerdy Superstud, a September 2021-born Goldies Linford son, out of Klibreck Emily, which sold to I.H. Stewart, Caithness.

The same buyer also paid 15,000gns for Solwayfirth Spartacus from Ian and Dorothy Goldie. By Glenericht Majestic, this September-2021 born bull is out of Solwayfirth Ingrid.

Making 13,000gns for J.H.C. Campbell and Sons, Alnwick, was first prize bull, Thrunton Sparticus. A May 2021-born Thrunton Nevada son, it sold to Dunbeath Farms, Caithness, and J. and M. Macdonald, Caithness.

Females

Charolais females topped at 3,600gns for Messrs Evans with Maerdy Rose, a Maerdy Figaro-W daughter which sold to T.A. Jones and Son, Carmarthen.
